Map of New York highlighting Allegany County

Allegany County is a Southern Tier county located between Cattaraugus County and Steuben County. Wyoming County and Livingston County are located north of Allegany County. The population of Allegany County was 49,927 in 2000. The low population for the size of the county is due to the fact that there are no cities in the county, but many small towns and villages such as Alfred and Wellsville.
